Applying to university: Student applications

If you have decided that you want to go to university, then there are a few more steps before you can actually become a student there.

Of course, you need to decide where you want to go and what you want to study but, once you have decided that, then it is time to apply.

In the UK, you apply though UCAS, which means that all applications go to the same place. UCAS will then forward them on to the Admissions Officer at your chosen university, who will decide, through a variety of reasons, if you will be offered a place at their university on your chosen course.

Settling back into university after the holidays

Now that Christmas is over, you will be thinking about having to go back to university soon.

You might be going back for exams, or just to start the new term, and it is perfectly normal to be anxious. Perhaps you are worried about leaving your family and home friends again, or about to how settle back in to life as a university student.

But there is no need to worry, as all the other students at your university will be feeling the same.

If you have exams, then you can prepare yourself by doing revision and settling into a study timetable. Then, when you get back to university, it will not be such a shock to the system to have to work hard again!

Don’t panic about your university exams

Now that you are on Christmas holidays, you have a bit of a break before going back to university.

However, when you get back, you might have exams to do for your university course. This could be something you are really worried about, but it is important to get a good work-life balance so that you do not get too stressed out.

It can be easy to get all worked up about your exams and you may find yourself in a panic. Maybe you feel that, because you are away from the campus and are at home, that you can not focus or concentrate on studying.

But try not to worry about your location, and instead try and concentrate on making the most of your time.

Preparing for Christmas as a university student

When you’re a university student, getting ready for the Christmas holidays can be an exciting and daunting time.

If you’re in your first year at university, then you will be nearing the end of your first term. You may be going home for the first time since coming to university, and seeing your family again for the first time in a month or two.

Although you may be looking forward to it, it is a good idea to prepare for that fact that you may find it difficult. You will have been living without ‘parental supervision’ and may now have to go back to living under your parents’ rules.

Also, you will probably have become used to spending a lot of time with a few particular people – your new friends – and will now be going for up to a month without seeing them, as well as having to plan for exams.

Preparing for your university exams

Studying for exams can be one of the most daunting times of the university year for students.

You have to do from socialising and enjoying yourself (and maybe even a relaxed lecture timetable) to having to knuckle down and do everything you can to pass your exams and graduate (if it’s your final year at university).

Do not fear though, there are some ways that you can prepare for exams so it doesn’t end up being a last-minute panic. By putting some simple practices in place, it will be much easier to pass those dreaded exams!
